Te Anau is the departure point for many excellent hiking and walking tracks and has an international reputation for being the 'walking capital of the world'. Transfers are available to all major tracks, including the Great Walks: the Milford, Routeburn and Kepler Tracks. Te Anau, Manapouri and the road to Milford Sound all offer short walks from 30 minutes to 3-6 hours. Follow the Lakeshore boardwalk straight into town and enjoy the gift shops, retail outlets and also our cafés and restaurants serving fresh local produce.

Other activities include the Te Anau glow-worm caves – a launch takes you across the lake to explore these spectacular underground caves. Or visit the Wildlife Park to view native and rare birds. Play 18 holes at one of New Zealand's most picturesque golf courses, or take a scenic flight in a helicopter or fixed-wing plane over the rugged Fiordland coast and the Southern Alps. Go jet boating or skydiving or take a simple lakeshore walk or picnic that will unwind and relax you while in this beautiful part of the world.
